This research explores the role of female tea pickers at the Malabar Tea Plantation in Pangalengan in 1992 using a historical approach. The focus of the study includes working conditions, gender relations, and the economic contribution of female workers to their families and communities. The results indicate that female workers play a crucial role in maintaining the sustainability of tea production and household economic stability, despite facing challenges such as low wages, heavy workloads, and limited access to education and skills training. The study also reveals persistent gender inequality, although not as pronounced, between female and male workers. The novelty of this research lies in its post-colonial focus, highlighting women’s roles in the agrarian sector during the socio-economic transition preceding the 1997 crisis a topic rarely explored in Indonesian labor history studies. These Nindings contribute to the study of labor history in Indonesia, particularly in examining women's roles in the agricultural sector.
